Applying for your UK passport in Nigeria

The Consular section in Lagos issues Emergency Passports and renews 32 and 48 page passports that are lost or stolen or due to expire. A fee is payable for these services.

Applicants for a first British Passport are subjected to interview to establish their Identity and entitlement to hold a British passport. This is a Government Policy and is compulsory since 2007. The interviews will be held in the Deputy High Commission Lagos. When making an application for a first passport or when the last passport expired a long time ago you will need to supply the following documents depending on where you were born:

First Time Adult Applicant Born in the UK

First Time Child Applicant Born in the UK

First Time Adult Applicant Born In Nigeria or Overseas

First Time Child Applicant Born In Nigeria or Overseas

When applying for your first passport due to the interview process the application takes longer than a renewal and applicants should NOT make travel plans until they have been issued a passport.

Passport issuing offices outside the United Kingdom do not provide the facility of fast tracking any passport applications. It normally takes 10 working days to issue a new passport, provided we have all the information and the application is complete in all respects. This can be confirmed once we have received the application. Applicants are required to be in Nigeria when making the application and until the passport is issued.

Kindly note: If you do not live in the UK you may apply for a passport from your nearest Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. Alternatively, you may also apply to the Identity and Passport Service (IPS), in person whilst visiting the UK. In order to do this, you need to make an appointment with IPS in the UK and you must provide an address in the UK to which the passport may be posted. Applicants will have to be available at this address to sign for the receipt of the passport. Please note that IPS do not accept applications by post or e-mail if you live abroad.
