A career diplomat since 1974, Mr Dewar has spent most of his career in Africa. His last job was as the British Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia.

Mr Dewar is married to Jenny who is with him in Nigeria and has two children.

Mr Dewar is currently Her Majesty's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Non-Resident Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea and Benin and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS.
